History

The Agency for Private Schools was founded in 1940 by Paul Meier; his son-in-law Hans Gujer (picture) took it over from him in 1969. His daughter Maja Studer has run the business since 2010.

The beginnings

In the 1950s, Paul Meier found premises to rent on the corner of the Bahnhofplatz and the Bahnhofstrasse in Zurich. A few years later, he moved the Agency into the Tourism Office in Zurich main station. Over the years, he started to advise clients on private day schools in the Zurich area and on language-learning stays abroad. His daughter Susanne got an early introduction to the business and to the characteristics of the various private schools. She, with her husband Hans Gujer, carried on the business expertly from 1969 onwards.

The later years

As time passed, Susanne Gujer had a family to look after and started to work for the Agency part-time, while Hans Gujer kept on expanding the scope of the advice offered. He also spent 12 years serving on the school board of a small municipality in the Zurich Oberland. This enabled him to acquire in-depth knowledge of the school system, which proved very useful to him when advising clients. In 1989, Susanne and Hans Gujer brought their daughter Maja Studer into the firm and introduced her to the world of private schools. She worked part-time in her parents’ firm until her children were older. In 2010, Maja Studer, representing the third generation, took over the running of the Agency.
